There is also a John Wynkoop, who might be Cornelius' brother. He was born March 20, 1784 and died January 23, 1860, buried at the Carlisle graveyard. He married Ann ---, who was born April 18, 1792 and died March 8, 1860. He made a will recorded in book “N” page 53: "Proven June 30th 1860 dated 1856 (???) friends John Mountz of Frankfort twp. Mentions sons: David, Issac, Matthew each to have twice as much as daughter because they stayed with him. Elizabeth intermarried with Rich. Owen, Margaret intermarried with John Davis (probably Mar 27, 1849), Martha single.

151a. Cornelius (or Cornelous) Wynkoop, (Jacob 151, Cornelius 44, Gerret 5, Cornelius 1) born 1780, died Sept. 7, 1823 (death record) in Cumberland, PA: married Martha ?. He served in the War of 1812, was wounded and suffered from his wounds so that he died not long afterwards [ not long? 11 years from 1812 till 1823? - KW ].  I think I got some of this information off of his Will, because he gave most of his estate to his son William.

William Wynkoop, (Cornelius 151a, Jacob 151, Cornelius 44, Gerret 5, Cornelius 1) born April 10, 1812 in Cumberland, PA: died April 10, 1880 in Jefferson, Greene County, IA: married Oct, 13, 1835, Mary Boak of Cumberland, PA, who was born Sept. 3, 1815 and, died 13 Aug. 1890). He served in the War of 1812 [ as a baby ? - KW]. I have a lot of information on him, including a copy of the original marriage certificate and death certificate which gave me more links.  He writing to the County Recorder in Jefferson, Iowa, she was a Wynkoop [ ??? - KW ], related to William Wynkoop as well, and she sent me a lot of information [ I don't understand what Adele means here? - KW ]. My information is from the County Recorder in Jefferson, IA.

(They had a bunch of kids, Harvey, Mabel, Zoe, Theodore, etc.)

I have documents that establish my paternal grandfather as one of the sons [ which one - KW ] of Simon Asbury Wynkoop (born aug 7, 1858 in Springfield, Ohio [ not in Jefferson, Greene County, IA? - KW ] & Elizabeth (Lizzie) Inip Shultz - the family was living in Kansas at the time (approx 1890-1900’s). His brothers and sisters were Harvey Asbury, Leon Louis, Henry, Mable, Zoa, and Thedore. Through a series of odd family circumstances [tell us more? - KW ], he left Kansas, and changed his name to Wilson. Elmer is 86 years old and healthy, very much alive and happy. He remembers his grandparents vividly, especially Lizzie.

Now married to Paul D. Hershey of Hampton Virginia, born August 27, 1947 in Washington, DC, former Sergeant Major in the US Marine Corps; they live in Park City, UT.

• I either have birth, death, marriage, wills or war records on all of the above, except for Hannah and Jacob Wynkoop.  That was my little glitch. I also have some pictures. Shirley also does photo reproductions. I wish I had a scanner so I could give you some pictures of Simon and Lizzie, and Leon and Nina.  My mother and father, and me, my son and granddaughter. • Shirley has a lot of information on the family, but I think she has trouble verifying the Jacob/Hannah marriage. I had trouble joining the Daughters of the American Revolution because the information I had did not positively verify the existance of Jacob and verification that he was the son of Cornelius and Helena. [but that's all recorded an age ago in RWG3, isn't it? - KW ]
