Last Easter (2001), Danielle and I
treated ourselves to a 5 day trip to this extremely well kept secret that is Dubai.
After only one day at the Sheraton in Jumeirah Beach, we were already looking at our
calendars to determine when we could come back. Until recently, we had planned to
return again next Easter for one week.
As you can see from the photos, our short stay
was mainly spent relaxing in the sun and enjoying tropical food and activities. The
surprising thing about Dubai is the vast spaces used by residents and businesses in terms
of accommodations. It is amazing to see how the entrepreneurs & Sheiks have
transformed what was once the most arid piece of land into a tropical paradise.
Because there is so much land available, each
hotel has an enormous amount of property. The consequence is that even on the
busiest of days (our hotel was fully booked for the whole time we were there), we never
had the impression of being crowded like one can have in other tropical destinations.
Despite the temperatures reaching the high-20's to low-30's each day, the cool and
constant breeze from the sea kept us fresh. The water temperature was a comfortable
23 degrees. Needless to say that we had a fabulous time, and would highly recommend
Dubai as a vacation destination.
